Filled with anticipation, the Campbell family arrived at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday 24 February 2016, where Bellair owner Alistair Campbell was awarded his OBE, for services to the economy and town centre regeneration, by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales. Here, Alistair shares his thoughts on the day and a few pictures prior to the “official” ones being sent through.
“What an experience! The whole day was truly magical: the statuesque Grenadier Guards and the Gurkhas; the imposing Queens Life Guards and Beefeaters; the Palace’s exquisite tapestries and awesome works of art; the soothing melodies from the Army String Orchestra; the palpable feeling of nerves and excitement from all the recipients in the room; my brief conversation with Prince Charles – all combine to make a day full of memories that I will never forget!
When I set out in property development 40 years ago, I never could have imagined I would one day find myself in front of Prince Charles talking about town centre regeneration – but the investiture at Buckingham Palace is not just what the OBE is about and I am very grateful to close family, many friends and vitally, the many business colleagues who have helped me realise not just Falkirk Business Hub but the other projects I have achieved over the years and I regard the OBE as recognition of a team effort.
As much as I have learned in my considerable experience of acquisition, development and operation of commercial developments, the fundamental point on which I am clear is that business for me is about making a difference and town centre regeneration should be at the very heart of that.
The investiture at Buckingham Palace was a special experience and being able to share the moment with my wife, daughter and son made the day even more magical.”
Alistair Campbell OBE is owner and director of Bellair (Scotland) Ltd which owns and operates a number of business centre developments including Falkirk Business Hub. Bellair has a number of plans under development for further regeneration which we hope will continue to drive investment in town centres as engines for economic growth.
