Falkirk Business Hub is changing ownership. Bellair Scotland Ltd has sold the landmark building to Tartan Commercial Ltd, who are also owners of The Lighthouse, a business centre in East Lothian. (www.lighthousenb.co.uk)
Situated in the heart of the town, Falkirk Business Hub is home to a diverse community of around 35 businesses employing approximately 150 people. The near-£2 million acquisition from Bellair Scotland will see Tartan Commercial retain all the employees at the hub.
It will be business as usual for tenants, with Tartan Commercial keen to keep Falkirk Business Hub operating as normal. The existing management team will remain in place and Alistair Campbell OBE, Chairman of Bellair Scotland, will join Tartan Commercial as a Non-Executive Director, providing both continuity during the handover period. Nick Watson will replace Colin Campbell as Managing Director of Falkirk Business Hub.
Tartan Commercial was setup in 2016 by Andy Hadden to develop and own the Lighthouse Business Centre in North Berwick. The Lighthouse is a well-established business centre with over 35 businesses occupying a range of space from single desks through to larger office suites. Andy currently has a heavy focus on his other business, Wavegarden Scotland, which is developing the first inland surf venue in the country. As a result, Nick Watson joined Tartan Commercial as Managing Director and shareholder this year to grow the business from its already strong position.
The decision to sell Falkirk Business Hub has been an incredibly hard one to make for the Bellair team. They took the former home of Falkirk’s General Post Office and renovated it in 2013 to create a modern, vibrant business centre. However, as the only serviced office property in the Bellair portfolio, the team recognised that they had taken the Hub as far as they could.
Alistair Campbell, Chairman of Bellair, said: “We didn’t take the decision to sell lightly. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created at Falkirk Business Hub. It’s become an important focal point for the local business community and a great marker for the town. Bellair is now moving in a different direction with a focus on different commercial property investments. We’ve made sure we are selling to the right people who will build on the success of the Hub and are committed to its continued success in the future.”
Nick Watson, Managing Director of Tartan Commercial, commented: “We’re great admirers of what has been achieved at Falkirk Business Hub. We see it as the benchmark for serviced office accommodation in Scotland and we’re keen to maintain its success in the town. We feel it sits perfectly alongside our first Business Centre in North Berwick and indeed will be looking to incorporate some learnings from Falkirk to our existing operation. This is a fantastic opportunity to expand our business and we’re excited to get to know our new tenants and the dynamic Falkirk business community.”
